How do I charge my Oura ring?
Place the ring on the charger provided to you. The charger size should match the size of the ring you are wearing. Let the device charge fully for optimal battery performance. This can take between 20-80 minutes. We suggest charging your device when you do your morning routine or when taking a shower. We have found that it is ideal to charge your ring daily (even though the battery life will last longer than this). This helps in getting into a routine and not forgetting to put the ring back on your finger after charging during intermittent times.
How do I sync my Oura ring?
Your ring will sync with the Oura app through Bluetooth connection. You will set up this connection when you set-up the device. If the Oura app is unable to find your ring while the ring is on your finger, connect the ring to the charger, keep your phone close to the ring, and try again. For more help, please refer to your Participant Guide.
How do I sync my Oura ring data?
Open the Oura app to sync the data from your ring. You will see your data in the Oura app, once the sync is completed. There may be a delay of up to 48 hours for the data to show in the MyT1Diabetes app.
What is the Empatica EmbracePlus wristband and what does it measure?
The Empatica EmbracePlus is a smart wristband that uses sensors to help track your health and measure specific vital signs. Specifically, the Empatica wristband measures:
Heart rate: Your heart rate throughout the day
Pulse: Your pulse throughout the day
Breathing rate: The number of breaths you take per minute
Blood oxygen saturation (spO2): The percentage of hemoglobin in your blood that is carrying oxygen
Your skin temperature: Your average peripheral skin temperature
Your steps: Your physical activity in steps throughout the day
Your skin conductance ((Electrodermal Activity (EDA)): The measure of changes in the electrical conductivity of the skin in response to sympathetic nervous system activation

How do I charge my Empatica wristband?
Place your wristband on the charger provided to you. The cable charger and EmbracePlus will automatically attach through magnets. You will feel a slight pull and EmbracePlus will snap into place. Let the device charge fully for optimal battery performance – a full charge takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. When charging is complete, gently remove EmbracePlus by holding the charger body in place and sliding out the device. Once the display background turns light and the time is shown, EmbracePlus is ready to be used.
How do I sync my Empatica wristband?
Your wristband will sync with the Empatica Care app through Bluetooth connection. You will set up this connection when you set-up the device. Ensure the wristband is near your smartphone while pairing. For more help, please refer to your Participant Guide.
How do I sync my Empatica wristband data?
To sync your Empatica EmbracePlus wristband data, make sure it is paired with the Care app and keep your wristband and smartphone within Bluetooth range. When connected, the EmbracePlus will automatically transmit stored data to the app. If you see the "M!" icon on the EmbracePlus display, it means the memory is full and data needs to be synced. Place your wristband within Bluetooth range and open the Care app to reconnect and sync.
What is the Dexcom G7 CGM and what does it measure?
The Dexcom G7CGM is an over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor. The Dexcom G7 CGM will collect information about your blood glucose (sugar) levels every few minutes. An alternate prescription CGM may be used if the Dexcom G7 is not available.
What do I do if the Oura ring, Empatica wristband, or Dexcom G7 CGM becomes uncomfortable?
Stop wearing the Oura ring, Empatica wristband, Dexcom C7 CGM (or other alternate prescription CGM) if any device becomes uncomfortable or if you have a skin reaction (like a rash) and contact a member of the study team immediately.
What do I do if the Oura ring, Empatica wristband, or Dexcom G7 breaks or stops working?
If any of your devices stop working, please contact a member of the study team.
I want to use my own device. What type of devices can I use in the study?
If you already own an Oura ring (Generation 3+) or Empatica EmbracePlus wristband you are able to use your own device in the study. You cannot use your own CGM device in the study. This means that if your personal doctor has asked you to wear a CGM to manage your insulin, you will need to continue to wear your prescribed CGM in addition to the Dexcom G7 CGM (or other prescription CGM) study device.
How will I know when I have a new survey to complete?
A list of daily Activities to Complete will be available in the MyT1Diabetes app Task section. If daily notification reminder preferences have been set, you will receive reminders at your preferred time. Otherwise, reminders will be sent out daily at 9:00am for all other surveys.
How do I set my daily notification reminder?
In the MyT1Diabetes app, go to the Settings page. Select Notifications time, then select your preferences and press Save.
What are the “Real world challenges?”
You will be asked to complete six real-world challenges over the course of your study participation. These challenges will involve drinking different types of beverages that we will provide to you. Three of these challenges will be preceded by a psychological stress test (e.g. public speaking, mental math, singing, etc.) You will be asked to fast over the night prior to completing these challenges in the morning. Your study coordinator will provide you with more information about these challenges.
